Wordpad "Failed to save document" error
I have a document that I created in Word 2008 on my macbook, and while the Mac was in for repair I thought I would edit it using Wordpad. It is mostly a text document with a couple of auto-numbered subject headings and several images. It opens fine in Wordpad except for the numbered lists which doesn't bother me. The issue comes when I went to save the file and I got an error where all it said was "Failed to save document". I tried saving to .docx with a new file, .odt and .rtf with .rtf being the only format that succeeded (but gave me a 120MB+ file which now is painfully slow to open). I don't find this an overly helpful error message for starters, but secondly I can't help but thinking that failing to save in .docx should not happen, instead unsupported formatting should be stripped (which is warned about) rather than blocking the save. Any help would be appreciated. Oh yeah, system info. Win 7 RC (7100) on an AMD AM2 X2 3600+ 8GB DDR2 800, 80GB and 1.16TB (RAID5) HDDs.

...i doubt wordpad would support saving as such, especially since .docx files are exclusively designed for word 2007 and above (unless you've got a compatibility pack for lower versions)oh yeah, wordpad and MS Word are two entirely different word processing apps

The Windows 7 version of Wordpad does support .docx files. It is one of the new features. It is there in the "save as" dialog box, and it opens them fine.

i tried saving a docx file done with word 2007, and i haven't encountered an error either using 'save' or 'save as.'might be something specific for the mac version of word (word 2008 if im not mistaken)

I had a bit of a play myself and it seems to be an issue with the images. If I open the original again and remove all images it saves fine. Not sure if it is the format of one of the images (I think there is a mix of .jpg and .eps in there) or images in general. But hey, finding out these things is what pre-release software is all about. When I get the Macbook back I'll create a couple of blank documents with just the images and see if I can narrow it down.

So this is odd. I opened and then tried to save the same file on my netbook (ASUS Eee 1000HD) which is also running Win 7 and it saved the file with no problems with all the images in place.
